Kiera Powers

Kiera Powers is a Dallas-based costume designer, filmmaker, musician, educator, and multidisciplinary artist. They hold a BFA in Theatre Arts Design & Technology with a concentration in Costume Design from University of Texas at Arlington.

Their work centers on character-driven storytelling through silhouette, texture, and culturally informed visual language. Kiera approaches design as a collaborative process that supports narrative, performer embodiment, and immersive world-building across theatre, film, and music.

Kiera has worked across professional, educational, and community theatre spaces throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Their costume design work explores identity, emotional storytelling, and visual rhythm while balancing practical construction and theatrical expression.

Additional production experience includes wardrobe, stitching, scenic painting, fabrication, and assistant design roles with organizations including Dallas Theater Center, A.D. Players, Southern Methodist University, and Dallas College.

Film, Music & Multidisciplinary Work

Beyond theatre, Kiera’s creative practice extends into filmmaking, music, visual art, and experimental storytelling. They are currently developing the ongoing film project Femme Fatale: Tales From Disruptors while continuing studies in Commercial Music Production at Dallas College.

As a musician and Audio Engineer, Kiera builds skills as a flutist, pianist, vocalist, and producer, integrating sound, narrative, and visual aesthetics across media. Their multidisciplinary approach reflects an interest in storytelling as an evolving and collaborative human experience.

These are selected pieces from film projects I collaborated on last year alongside local screenwriters and creatives. Featured works include Bane: (A Sanguine Soliloquy), a short film from my ongoing project Femme Fatale: Tales From the Disruptors, which I directed and shot, as well as a visual piece created for London Crawford’s The Enlightenment film series.

I view storytelling as a collaborative act of world building, connection, and cultural expression across theatre, film, music, and visual art. As a costume designer and multidisciplinary artist, I am drawn to the emotional language of design, using silhouette, texture, color, and craftsmanship to support narrative, identity, and performer embodiment.

My work is rooted in accessibility, education, advocacy, and intentional storytelling. Through costume design, filmmaking, music, and community arts engagement, I strive to create spaces that encourage creativity, connection, and cultural awareness while empowering emerging artists to feel seen, supported, and inspired.

My experiences in community arts education have deeply shaped my creative practice and strengthened my commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive creative spaces. I believe art should be accessible, collaborative, and culturally conscious, with the power to build confidence, foster dialogue, and create meaningful human connection.

As a Black non binary artist, I am passionate about uplifting Black, BIPOC, queer, and marginalized voices while continuing to explore storytelling as an evolving and shared creative experience.
