MEET Kiera
Kiera Powers (They/Them) is a Dallas-based non-binary costume designer, filmmaker, musician, and multidisciplinary artist. Holding a BFA in Theatre Arts Design and Technology from the University of Texas at Arlington, Kiera’s design philosophy centers on character-driven storytelling, utilizing silhouette, texture, and culturally informed visual language to ground performer embodiment and immersive world-building. Their regional theater credits include collaborations with Soul Rep Theatre Company (Gem of the Ocean, The African Company Presents Richard III), Bishop Arts Theatre Center (A Dallas Hedda, Black Nativity), and Circle Theatre (A Strange Loop).
Beyond the stage, Kiera intersects film and music, developing the project Femme Fatale: Tales From Disruptors while studying Commercial Music Production at Dallas College. As a musician and vocalist, they treat storytelling as an evolving, interdisciplinary art. Grounded in community equity, Kiera serves as the Founder/CEO of Living Theories Collective, an educator across Dallas arts spaces, and the co-founder of the Black Theatre Society at UTA.

About Living Theories Collective
Living Theories Collective is a community-centered nonprofit focused on expanding access to arts education, STEAM learning, and creative mentorship for youth throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Founded by Kiera Powers, the organization creates hands-on learning experiences that connect theatre, design, fabrication, and interdisciplinary arts with personal growth, cultural exploration, and career development. Through partnerships with schools, after-school programs, artists, and community organizations, Living Theories Collective works to build safe, inclusive, and inspiring spaces where creativity becomes a tool for education, empowerment, and opportunity.
Through collaborations with organizations including Greenhill School, Urban Arts Center Dallas, Bishop Arts Theatre Center, Jubilee Park & Community Center, and Dallas AfterSchool, Kiera Powers has created inclusive learning environments where young people build creative confidence, technical skills, and opportunities for personal growth through theatre, design, and interdisciplinary arts education. These experiences inspired the founding of Living Theories Collective, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to arts education, STEAM learning, and community-centered creative opportunities.

Carlean is a young girl from Detroit’s 8 Mile who dreams of a life beyond her neighborhood. She finds an exciting journey with the famed Arthur Bragg’s Idlewild Revue. As she joins the show as one of its glamorous Fiesta Dolls, she discovers her talents, finds her voice, and falls in love. From her love, she grows more and finds the strength to overcome obstacles and challenges she never thought she’d have to endure. This is not only a celebration of Black artistry and entrepreneurship but also of a woman’s legacy fueled by resilience, determination, and love. A play celebrating the life and legacy of Idlewild, the legendary Black resort community known as the "Motown before Motown." This new work, developed through Jubilee Theatre's New Works program, highlights the indomitable spirit of a woman who defies all odds to keep her dream alive.
