For Juicy and Delicious, I approached the costumes as a way to visualize how Hushpuppy sees his world and his family. Daddy’s look pulls directly from that environment—rugged, worn, and heavily distressed—mirroring Hushpuppy’s own adventurous nature, while touches of aqua subtly connect him back to Mama. Mama, to me, lives in Hushpuppy’s imagination as something larger than life, so I leaned into bold color, fringe, and movement to give her a sense of strength, spectacle, and almost mythic presence. Hushpuppy remains grounded in stained, lived-in clothing that reflects his energy and resilience. Altogether, the designs feel rooted in the bayou but shaped by memory, perception, and the emotional lens of a child trying to understand his world.
